UK9BG Club Member Spotlight: Braylyn Cole

Braylyn’s love for working with dogs began at a young age and has only grown deeper over time. Her professional journey in the dog world officially started in 2005 when she began working with rescues and puppies. These early experiences not only sparked her passion for the field but also laid a strong foundation for the diverse and multifaceted career she has built today. Over the years, Braylyn has dedicated her life to working with dogs, constantly learning, growing, and expanding her expertise.

In 2011, Braylyn took a significant step forward by apprenticing with master groomer Jeanette Embree. Under Jeanette’s mentorship, she honed her grooming skills and officially began her career as a professional groomer. Now, she is preparing to take the next big leap by opening her own dog grooming and training business, Concise K9, alongside her husband, Kevin. Based in Calgary, this venture will bring together Braylyn’s years of experience, skill, and passion for dogs into a single, cohesive vision.

Beyond training and competing, Braylyn is also a talented videographer, capturing the intensity, dedication, and artistry of working dogs in action. As part of Northern K9 Photography, she documents club events, trials, and training sessions, ensuring handlers and competitors have high-quality visual records of their hard work. Her passion for the sport extends beyond just competing—she plays a crucial role in preserving and sharing the moments that define the working dog community.

Personal Experience with Dogs
Braylyn’s journey with dogs began with her game-bred American Pit Bull Terriers, Lua and Rayne. These two dogs introduced her to the world of dog sports and competition, where she developed a passion for disciplines such as dock diving, weight pull, and scent work. Their success in these sports fueled Braylyn’s drive to explore more advanced training and competitive opportunities.

In 2021, she welcomed Emmitt into her family, and he quickly became a key partner in her competitive journey. Early in Emmitt’s training, Braylyn worked with Stan Thankachen of Ultimate K9 Bodyguards, who introduced her to PSA (Protection Sports Association). This experience sparked a newfound love for protection sports, which became a major focus of her training and competition goals. In 2022, Braylyn joined UK9BG PSA club, where she has continued to grow and develop as a handler and competitor.

Her husband, Kevin, has played a vital role in her journey. Always willing to step into the bite suit or lend a hand with her latest ideas, his unwavering support has been a cornerstone of her success. Braylyn is also deeply grateful to all of her UK9BG PSA club members and the dedicated decoys who have worked with and developed Emmitt, and now Leeroy, throughout the years.

Emmitt’s Accomplishments
Braylyn’s dedication to training and competition is best reflected in Emmitt’s impressive list of accomplishments. He has earned numerous titles across PSA, Barn Hunt, and NASDA, showcasing his versatility and skill in multiple disciplines.

Titles Earned by Emmitt:
• PSA: PDC (Protection Dog Certificate), PSA1
• Barn Hunt: RATN (Novice), RATO (Open), RATS (Senior), RATM (Master), CZ8B (Crazy 8s Bronze), CZ8S (Crazy 8s Silver)
• NASDA: SD-1 (Shed Dog Level 1), LI-1 (Lost Item Level 1), UL-1 (Urban Locating Level 1)

Major Achievements:
• 2024 Raw Dog West Coast Regionals PSA1 Champion 
• 2024 Dirty Bandana Montana PSA1:
• Saturday: 3rd place overall
• Sunday: 1st place overall
• 2024 UK9BG PSA1 With Distinction:
• 2nd place overall
• Tied for 1st place in protection
• 2nd place in obedience

Current Goals
Braylyn continues to set ambitious goals for Emmitt. He is currently training toward earning the following titles:
• PSA: PSA2
• Barn Hunt: RATCH (Champion), CZ8G (Crazy 8s Gold)
• NASDA: SD-II (Shed Dog Level 2), UL-II (Urban Locating Level 2)

Looking Ahead
Braylyn is currently whelping the Chola/Vato litter and is excited to start a new journey with a puppy from this special breeding. This marks another step in her ever-evolving journey in the working dog world, as she looks forward to raising and developing her next competition partner.

With her continued success in dog sports and her vision for Concise K9, Braylyn is poised to make a lasting impact in both the grooming and training industries. Her unique combination of professional expertise, personal experience, and passion for dogs ensures that her business will be a hub for dog owners seeking high-quality services and expert training.
